Short Bio & Research Interest
-
I am a systems researcher (Principal Inventive Scientist)
in Cloud Platform Software Research department at AT&T Labs Research.
I am broadly interested in the topics in the area of systems and networking.
In AT&T, most of my projects are related to the cloud infrastructure design and architecture
with an emphasis on (distributed) storage systems.
The list includes, but not limited to,
deployable software-defined storage solutions for AT&T Integrated Cloud and Edge Cloud,
high performance storage with SSDs and RDMA transport,
optimizing video storage and delivery (OTT video delivery solution with in-house CDN),
storage performance/capacity optimization with specialized hardware and
software-based data reduction techniques, such as erasure coding and data deduplication.
I earned a Ph.D. degree from the Computer Science Department at University of Southern California (USC) in 2013. Prior to that, I received an M.S. degree from the same school(USC) in 2008 and a B.S. degree from Seoul National University in 2005, both from the Electrical Engineering Department. During my PhD (before joining AT&T), I had built several interesting cloud-enabled mobile systems: a privacy-preserving photo sharing systems [P3, NSDI'13], which has been commercialized, a high-level programming systems for crowd-sensing tasks [Medusa, MobiSys'12], a runtime that enables demanding mobile applications by offloading computation to the cloud [Odessa, MobiSys'11], and a smart network interface selection system and associated algorithm that can tradeoff energy and delay by intelligently deferring transmission opportunities [SALSA, MobiSys'10].
